WEBDec 5, 2005 · If you're running 4-ohm speakers then I'd go with 12 AWG for the fronts and 10 AWG for the rears--actually, I'd go with 10 AWG for everything. I have five 4-ohm loudspeakers in my HT and that's how they're all wired, with twisted-pair 10 AWG 5T00UP Belden cable--which is rated for in-wall use, by the way.

It should work, but if you want to be safe, especially with a 25-foot run, going with a 10 gauge wire would give you more peace of mind. Reply Like.

WEBNov 22, 2006 · Go with the 10 gauge - it can't hurt anything, and depending on your power level, it migh reduce your losses slightly vs. 12 gauge. That said, I just wired my HT with 12 - that should be plenty for anything under 100 ft at 120W, particularly if you're running your subwoofer signal as line-level. Like. D.

So for that example, 14 turns in one inch means the wire is 1/14" diameter, without insulation. 10 gauge wire would be 1/10" (0.10 in) and so on. So the LOWER the gauge number, the thicker the wire.

Does anyone have any experience with speaker wire turning "green" (oxidation or maybe this is a reaction between the copper and the sheathing material).
