I only had 10 cord split this year, but I sold out two weeks before Thanksgiving, paid for the machine with a little left for me. Next year I hope to have 20 cord, and that's all for me.

WEBDec 31, 2013 — It is actually on sale now so it is about $50 less They are similar designs but I would be very leery of the HF one as it says in the description it will split logs as thick as 8 inches. I don't even split logs that small. Sounds to me like that thing is for making kindling.

WEBJul 6, 2008 — The american made stuff is probably better, but most of the splitter have the same components (Prince valves, Haldex pumps, Robin/B&S/Honda engines) so about all that's left is sticking a bunch of metal together. I'd call it welding, but in the case of the Harbor Freight model, that would be disrespectful to professional welders.

My hydro pump faces the front, or ball hitch side of the splitter. At the local Northern Tool store, they sell another brand of the blue colored chinese engine.
