WEBMay 17, 2022 · Both the XM3 and the XM4 are unusable for phone calls, and from the reviews it seems like at last Sony managed to fix it with the XM5. I would say xm4 or if you want to save a bit then xm3. Xm5 looks like a bad deal honestly (personally). I just bought some xm3s on eBay for $90 USD.

WEBNov 24, 2020 · Personally I upgraded for the sound quality. The xm4's have less bass, toned down mid range, and better instrument separation. They are more comfortable listen to for longer periods of time. On the other hand, the xm3's have overloaded bass and an overwhelming mid range. The overall sound is boomier/more impactful.

They dropped the headshaking sub bass on the XM4 resulting to a weaker bass response. People mentioned the notable clarity on the xm4 but I can personally hear more detail on the 3.

WEBJul 13, 2023 · Sound quality is pretty much the same between them when equalizers are the same and music is the same. Only tangible difference comes in ANC. The XM4 are noticeably better at silencing the outside world, at the cost of an audible hiss which isn't present in the XM3. I tested another unit just to be sure it wasn't just me.
