Hello, My husband and I will be traveling to Quito with our son, his wife and children (ages 11 and 14) June 1-3. We would like to see Old Town (churches, plazas and Casa Museo Urrutia, Casa de Las Arles to see the hat makers and tin/metal craftsmen), the Teleferico, Mitad del Mundo and Intinan Museum and Botanical Garden. We may be interested in a trip to Otavala Market since we will be there on Saturday. We would also like a chocolate making experience, perhaps Chez Tiff or Pacari. Can you suggest an itinerary that will not be too rushed and that can be flexible? Would you suggest doing some of these activities on our own? We are a Los Angeles based running group who will be in town for the Guayaquil Marathon 42.2 km in Oct 2019. We are a group of around 40 and will be traveling for 14 days. Our group is 40 people and we typically travel for 14 days. Every year we visit a different country to run a marathon. We have been to Ghana, Italy, Vietnam, Israel and Jordan. What makes our running club unique is that we run with individuals struggling with drug addiction and homelessness. We believe running can be a tool which helps depression and one piece of the puzzle to help stay sober. Some points of interest would be (and open to many more suggestions)....... - Galapagos 4 nights (swim with whale sharks) - Banos thermal baths - Climbing volcanos or mountains (we are an active group:) - Waterfalls - Nature Reserve/Eco Lodge - Cloud Forest - Cooking Class or Handicraft Class - Meet and learn about the Indigenous People of Ecuador - Hands on monkey experience - Devils Nose Train Maybe some sight seeing here and there for down days but activities are way more fun I’m still doing some research so I’ll probably have some more specific ideas soon. We had 2 days with Luis which were great. We emailed before arriving and worked out what worked for us. The trip to Cotopaxi gave us a chance to see outside Quito and was great and we had an amazing potato soup for lunch. The city you r we did took us up the cable car and then wandering around the historic area was interesting particularly when you go behind the normal tourist areas. The old town has a lot of nearly hidden courtyards behind the facades of buildings so don't be afraid to look beyond the doorway. Cost was very reasonable for 2 days of private tours, a bit over $400 USD.
