We are going to Oman in October 2018. Arriving on 15 October 8 am and leaving 20 October at 9am for Dubai. We would like to concentrate more on nature than culture but we would like to do some of the best cultural experiences like the Mosque etc. Is it best to do it on your own or with a tour guide? Can you please recommend a tour plan and accommodation accordingly?

Hi Hans. Much cheaper to hire a 4x4 and do your own thing, as long as you are comfortable driving in a foreign country - exoect the unexected!, especially if driving in Muscat.! You dont say where you are staying? If in a hotel in Muscat, then most offer day-trips to the tourist spots. I would suggest planning in advance - road system is good but there were LOTS of long sections of roadworks when we went(aoril 2018) so you need to leave plenty of time to get around. I used the 'top ten places to vist in Muscat' list on tripadvisor. Agree with CM - Nizwa is best fort - right next to Souq, but check openingtimes!! Good thing about hiring your own is that you can stop where YOU want to. Guided tours ONLY sdtop at specific points for a short time, just depends on what ypu want. Hope that helps
