Steve is an expert crafter, and signs on to help Garrett and his comrades through the Overworld. He is played by Jack Black, who you will know from his extensive comedy career, including the “Jumanji” movies, “Shallow Hal,” “School of Rock” and more.

Steve was the original human discoverer of the Overworld, or the cubic universe like that of the Minecraft video game. He tamed his beloved dog Dennis with the bone of a dead skeleton and left the Orb of Dominance behind on Earth for Garrett (Jason Momoa) to discover and Henry (Sebastian Hansen) to put together.

Looking at his recent credits, you might assume Jack Black is hoping to set a record as the actor with the most video game adaptations to his name. After voice roles in both The Super Mario Bros Movie and Borderlands, he now leads the cast for A Minecraft Movie – which reunites him with Nacho Libre director Jared Hess almost 20 years on.
