Pezeshkian offers to mediate between Pakistan, Afghanistan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday expressed Tehran’s willingness to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help ease tensions and resolve ongoing disputes, local media reported. Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Interior Ministers’ Meeting in Tehran.
Officials from Afghanistan’s Taliban government, its defence ministry, and Pakistan’s army and foreign ministries have not yet commented publicly on the failed negotiations.
The two committed to stop attacking each other after the worst outbreak of hostilities in years. But the underlying causes remain, analysts warn.
