After shocking scenes of violence in Amsterdam last week – with accusations of an organized “hunting” of Jews following days of unrest with fans of visiting Israeli club Maccabi-Tel Aviv – the French capital is determined to avoid a repeat.

Some 4,000 security forces were deployed to keep the peace in Paris as Israel's national soccer team faces France a week after antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam.

Officials said friction had been growing in the lead-up to the soccer match, with the antisemites who led the attack calling for an organized “Jew hunt” in the city.
