Michael Harris II hit a three-run homer and posted his eighth straight multi-hit game and Nick Allen had a two-run double, powering the visiting Atlanta Braves to a 10-1 rout of the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night.
Right-hander Slade Cecconi, one of the reasons for the Guardians’ revival, took it on the chin for the second straight start. Cecconi (5-6, 4.50) allowed eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
But this week the club has added another former Atlanta Braves prospect, this time Jared Shuster, off the waiver wire from the Chicago White Sox. Shuster was selected by the Braves in the first round, 25th overall, out of Wake Forest.
The offense has been disappointing all year. It is averaging 4.2 runs per game, which ranks in the bottom half of the league. Although former All-Stars Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies have underperformed, the Braves have been hurt recently by the unavailability of Austin Riley.
