Day 5 began with a United States bracket game between Washington (Northwest region) and Massachusetts (New England). Bonney Lake, Washington edged Braintree, Massachusetts 3-2 to keep their championship hopes alive. Elsewhere, Canada scored a blowout win in the International bracket, routing Australia 12-0 in five innings.

Refreshing air and a cooler pattern is settling in to start the week in Boston. A northeast breeze makes it feel even cooler along the coast through the evening. Temperatures take a nosedive Monday night due to clear skies and lower humidity.

Before their first game of the Little League World Series, the kids from Braintree received an encouraging message from members of the Boston Red Sox.
