Cuba`s electrical grid collapsed again early on Saturday morning, state-run media reported, plunging the entire country into blackout for a second time just hours after authorities announced they had begun reestablishing service.

MIAMI: The Cuban people have been left in the dark after their nation's electrical grid collapsed Friday. "It was really frustrating because we don't know how long it will last," Omar McKenzie, a Cuban resident in Havana told CBS News Miami.

Cuba’s electrical grid went offline after one of the island’s major power plants failed, the energy ministry said. Authorities on Friday said all classes have been suspended and that they will shut down some state-owned workplaces.

Cuba's power-grid operator said it had restored electricity to most of the capital Havana on Monday even as Tropical Storm Oscar lashed the island's eastern end, downing trees and power lines.

Many Cubans waited in anguish Sunday as electricity on much of the island had yet to be restored days after an island-wide blackout. Their concerns were also raised as Hurricane Oscar made landfall in the southeastern Bahamas and was heading toward their country.
