Jensen, a veteran agent who helped oversee the Jan. 6 investigation from his position as chief of the FBI's domestic terrorism section, was given a significant promotion by Patel to be the assistant director in charge of the Washington Field Office, one of the largest outposts in the country.

The plan appears to be part of a broader effort to shift the agency’s focus from tracking national security threats to fighting street crime.

The FBI headquarters in Washington has added artifacts from the 2001 9/11 terror attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon to The FBI Experience tour.

FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the agency will continue combatting crime in Washington, D.C. until “every community is safe."
