The military operations chiefs of India and Pakistan will discuss on Monday the next steps for the nuclear-armed neighbours after a ceasefire returns calm to the border, following their fiercest fighting in nearly three decades.

The frontier between arch-foes India and Pakistan was peaceful and had the "first calm night in recent days," the Indian army said Monday after a surprise weekend ceasefire.

Hours after the cease-fire was confirmed, there were accusations that the agreement was not being entirely upheld.
