Are you more inclined to watch the Orioles on TV since they promoted Dylan Beavers and Samuel Basallo? We want to hear from you.
The Orioles have won four of their last five games and are sending out another lineup tonight ripe with top prospects.Samuel Basallo is catching his first major league game, with Adley Rutschman on the bench.
Basallo, 21, is a former international signee out of the Dominican Republic and is a consensus top-15 prospect in the majors at this point. CBS Sports prospect expert R.J. Anderson ranked Basallo ninth overall in his midseason rankings this year, saying the following:
The Baltimore Orioles have a game plan in place for getting Samuel Basallo into the lineup as much as possible.
The Baltimore Orioles smoked the Houston Astros, 12-0, on Sunday night. It was the rare bright spot in an otherwise dour campaign for this O's team. Viewed as a potential World Series threat not that long ago, Baltimore has fallen to the bottom of the AL East this season. Changes are on the horizon as a result, and very few players are safe.
The hype surrounding Samuel Basallo is warranted. The 21-year-old top prospect is oozing with tantalizing talent and booming tools. He has a hose behind the plate. He can do splits while stretching at first base.
Batting sixth as the designated hitter, Basallo made history as soon as he stepped into the box in the second inning, becoming the first Orioles player to be hit by a pitch in his first career plate appearance. He grounded into a double play in the fourth, popped out in the sixth and then had the homer stolen in the seventh.
