Congress Avenue during construction. AUSTIN, Texas - A new grocery store, three years in the making, is almost ready to open its doors on South Congress Avenue.

H-E-B will open its location at 2400 S. Congress Ave. on Dec. 4 at 6 a.m., company officials confirmed Monday. The company first shared plans back in December 2021 to demolish its original Congress store, which first opened in 1957. H-E-B has been operating out of a temporary space at the Twin Oaks Shopping Center, located at 2301 S. Congress Ave.
