This Thanksgiving holiday will be shadowed by the loss of a loved one for many in Western North Carolina left to mourn after Tropical Storm Helene.

Shawn Hendrix, known as Mr. Beast, spoke to Top Story about ongoing relief efforts in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. He noted significant cleanup and rebuilding progress but emphasized that those struggling before the storm are now facing even greater challenges.

There is still a lot of devastation across Avery County months after Tropical Storm Helene hit the area. Several residents along the Toe River told Channel 9 that strong winds overnight brought down trees that were weakened by the storm, leaving them without power.

As North Carolinians continue to rebuild after Hurricane Helene, socially vulnerable communities face many more challenges in their recovery.

Some local North Carolina officials are concerned the provision could impact the way cities manage their growth.
