Rains lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, and the India Meteorological Department said the depression over Bay of Bengal has formed into a deep depression and it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on November 27.

Tamil Nadu has been receiving intense rainfall, especially in Chennai city and nearby districts. As per the IMD, a depression over the Bay of Bengal may increase in severity to a 'deep depression' in the following 12 hours.

The system is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, with potential landfall along Tamil Nadu's coast by the end of the week.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh between November 27 and 29. Strong winds, ranging between 45-55 km/h with gusts up to 65 km/h, are likely along the affected coasts. Additionally, rough seas may lead to flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt marine activities.

The IMD warns that a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, potentially impacting Tamil Nadu’s coast. Authorities urge readiness and caution as the system develops.
