Coloradans in Fremont and Costilla counties were still under mandatory evacuation orders Saturday as wildfires continued to burn roughly 100 miles apart on Fort Carson and in Chama Canyon.

Crews were making progress Saturday battling a fast-growing and smoky wildfire in southern California that broke out Friday morning, prompting mandatory evacuations and warnings.

“Crews and aircraft worked throughout the night cutting line, laying hose, and dropping water & retardant on the active fire perimeter,” the update said.
