Dorchester County activated its emergency operations center Monday amid flooding along the Edisto River. While flooding has not been significant at this point in Dorchester County, rescue crews are stationed along the river and a command center is prepped for use at the Givhans Fire Department.

An emergency shelter was opened Sunday for residents looking to escape rising water along the Edisto River. The shelter, which began welcoming evacuees at 6 p.m., is located at the Colleton County Recreation Center at 208 Recreation Lane.

Flooding continues Monday morning along the Edisto River. “Do not attempt to drive through flood waters,” the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said while warning that several roads were becoming impassable due to rising water.
