A group of anonymous FBI agents sued the Justice Department to prevent the public release of names of bureau personnel who worked on cases involving the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.

The Justice Department has agreed to refrain from publicly identifying any FBI agents whose conduct is under review as President Donald Trump’s administration examines the investigations into the Jan.

The acting head of the FBI, following days of resistance, turned over to the Justice Department a list of names of FBI employees who worked on investigations related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.

The agreement does not impose a constraint on the distribution of agents' identities to government agencies or the White House.

The FBI has provided the Justice Department with names of employees who worked on January 6-related cases after a new demand from the acting deputy attorney general, capping a weeklong back-and-forth between bureau leadership – who had sought to protect agent and staff identities – and the department.
