A powerful storm bringing heavy rain and swept across the Northeast on Thursday, killing at least two people in New York and one in Philadelphia. Two people died in flooded basements on Thursday after heavy rain overwhelmed streets and subway stations in New York City.
Parts of New York City saw record rainfall on Thursday, and the deluge flooded some streets and subway stations. According to NYC Emergency Management, the National Weather Service reported that 1.8 inches of rain fell in Central Park on Thursday. That would preliminarily break the previous known record set in 1917, the department said.
Officials are investigating the cause of a Brooklyn apartment fire that sent nearly 30 people to the hospital, according to the FDNY. Calls came in for the residential fire at 1270 54th St. between 132nd Ave.
