Iran has introduced new transit rules and tighter controls in the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of further disruption to global oil trade amid escalating tensions with the US.
While no concrete points of agreement have emerged, sources said this was the closest both parties have been to a deal since the war began.
The mission is more evidence of U.S. military competence and bravery.
Deep mistrust between the U.S. and Iran leaves nuclear talks fragile, with analysts warning of a phased military campaign if diplomacy fails entirely.
Tehran's streets are filled with posters, flags and slogans as Iran projects defiance amid regional tension. The mood is shadowed by a delayed Khamenei funeral and questions over civilian losses after the Jalal Building strike.
