New rail cars, high-tech buses, and expanded service vehicles aim to reduce delays, improve reliability, and modernize the commuter experience across New Jersey.
NJ Transit President Kris Kolluri gave CBS News New York the first look at one of the brand new Multilevel III rail cars. The new multi-level trains are expected to be much more reliable, as they'll be replacing cars that were built five decades ago, NJ Transit said.
The upgraded model, which is faster and more reliable, is part of the over $3 billion plan to modernize the entire fleet by 2031.
The new vehicles represent an investment of more than $3 billion and is a major step in the agency’s plan to fully modernize its rail and bus fleets by 2031.
