Cars’ return from production slumber is nothing unusual — Ford revived the Bronco, and Toyota brought back the Supra after nearly two decades. Now, Audi is launching the resurrection of their classic R8, but with a surprising twist: it is a plug-in hybrid, leveraging Lamborghini’s sophisticated technology.

Rumor has it the famed Audi R8 isn't gone for good, after all. Apparently sharing its underpinnings with the Lamborghini Temerario, we envision what it could look like.

Autocar claims to have knowledge that engineering on the vehicle is officially underway with the backing of Audi chairman Gernot Döllner. The details are theoretically similar in scope to the two previous generations of R8: take the important bits from Lamborghini; temper its character into something more Germanic; and wrap it all in Audi styling.

The upcoming Audi R8 coupe or roadster would likely share key components of the drivetrain with Lamborghini Temerario, continuing the tradition of the older Audi R8 models.
