Sovereignty is the winner of the 151st Kentucky Derby after a thrilling finish over favorite Journalism to cap the first leg of the 2025 Triple Crown. Sovereignty came out post No. 18 after entering the race with 10-1 odds.

That’s a fitting mint julep toast for Sovereignty, who won Saturday’s Kentucky Derby on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., winning in a field of 19 3-year-old colts who chased the $3.1 million prize and a blanket of roses.
