European Union envoys have approved new sanctions against Russia, with the measures set to enter into force next week on the third anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

EU countries on Wednesday agreed a new round of sanctions on Russia, diplomats said, as the bloc looks to keep up pressure in the face of US talks with Russia. The wide-ranging package — which includes a ban on imports of Russian aluminium —  will be formally adopted by EU foreign ministers on Monday,

The EU has agreed on a 16th package of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on aluminum imports and targeting shadow fleet vessels, as the US and Russia hold talks about the Ukraine war.
