Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel says it has signed a deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink to explore providing the U.S. satellite internet giant’s services to customers in India, depending on government approval.

For months, Musk and Ambani had been at odds over how India should allocate airwaves for satellite internet. While Reliance pushed for an auction, the Indian government ultimately sided with Musk’s preferred administrative allocation model.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns on the partnership of both Airtel and Reliance Jio with Starlink, alleging that the deals were orchestrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to curry favour with former U.

The CPI(M) has opposed Jio and Airtel collaboration with Elon Musk's Starlink, citing concerns over spectrum allocation and national security. Warning against monopolisation and strategic risks, the party urged the government to block the deal.

With both Airtel and Jio announcing partnerships with Starlink, the Congress on Thursday alleged that these have been orchestrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi "to buy goodwill" with US President Donald Trump through Starlink's owner Elon Musk.
