Former Trail Blazers radio announcer Brian Wheeler has died: ‘He was just a great human being’
Former Portland Trail Blazers radio play-by-play announcer Brian Wheeler died Friday morning at the age of 62. Wheeler, known as “Wheels,” was the Blazers’ radio voice from 1998 to 2019. He was well known for his energetic style that led to catchphrases such as, “BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA,” often used when a Blazers player could score on a powerful dunk.
