King Charles III and Queen Camilla have been welcomed to Samoa with a royal 'ava ceremony - a tradition reserved only for monarchs. The King and Queen are in the Pacific Island country for the Commonweath Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), following a visit to Australia.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have been officially welcomed at a Commonwealth summit in Samoa fresh from their tour of Australia.

In the dark, dozens of people lined a narrow road near the Samoan fishing village of Siumu, gathering near a sign bearing a portrait of King Charles III and waiting excitedly for a glimpse of the real monarch.

Britain's King Charles and Queen Camilla flew into Samoa late on Wednesday, for a visit during which the monarch will be offered the title of high chief and attend a summit of Commonwealth nations, following a six-day tour of Australia.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have landed in Samoa after departing Australia on Wednesday afternoon. The King and Queen are now in the final leg of their Pacific tour, the biggest overseas trip Their Majesties have done since the coronation and the King's cancer diagnosis in February.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have said they “can’t wait” to explore Samoa for a state visit and experience the “warmth” of the country’s ancient traditions upon their arrival on Wednesday. Their Majesties landed on a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) plane on the Polynesian nation early Wednesday morning where they were greeted by Samoa’s prime minister Afioga Fiame Naomi Mataafa.
