The U.S. on Friday proposed a draft United Nations resolution to mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the proposal pits Washington against an effort by Kyiv and European allies to have their own text adopted on Monday by the General Assembly.

The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly condemned Russia for the war in Ukraine on Monday, though the US joined Moscow in voting against the measure, reports the Washington Post. Others in the "no" camp included North Korea and Belarus.

The U.S. has pressured Ukraine to withdraw its European-backed U.N. resolution demanding an immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine in favor of an American proposal that doesn't mention Moscow’s invasion.
