Ryan Hartman was well aware of Gary Bettman’s track record and how rare it is for the NHL commissioner to shorten suspensions. But that’s exactly what Bettman did Monday, trimming Hartman’s 10-game suspension for roughing Ottawa’s Tim Stützle to eight games to make the forward eligible to return next Tuesday at Seattle.
For the first time in a long time, the Ottawa Senators are in a position to buy at the deadline. While it is no secret that they are after some forward depth, they haven’t alluded to who they might be looking at.

The Senators need more from their winger, whom Green pushed to be harder on pucks from as way back as last summer. Batherson scored a hat trick against the Anaheim Ducks in mid-December, which should’ve been an encouraging sign for his season. But he has scored only four goals in his next 28 games.
It was a rocky return from the 4-Nations break as the Ottawa Senators fell to the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 5-2.
