Isaac Elementary School District is more than $28 million in debt, according to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas Galvin.
A House committee approved a bill that would direct Maricopa County Treasurer John Allen to issue $2.5 million to cover one payroll for the district.
"The feeling is extremely tense on what may happen tomorrow if they are not paid," said Marisol Garcia, head of the Arizona Education Association.
