There is an “aura of invincibility” that the Florida Gators will fire head football coach Billy Napier at some point, but the school lacks an urgency to relieve him right now, according to ESPN college football reporter Pete Thamel.

Billy Napier is on the hot seat. University of Florida boosters are attempting to pay his way out of Gainesville and opponents are no long wary of wading into “The Swamp.” The outside noise has become inescapable.

Napier was hired in November 2021 partly because he had a detailed plan for the Gators to close the gap on Alabama and Georgia in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference, which would also restore the program’s status as a legitimate national championship contender after being mostly an afterthought over the previous decade.
