Forced induction in motorcycles is nothing new, but Honda's latest concept vehicle is going about it in a whole new way. Building on their decades-long legacy of force-fed bikes— say hi, CX650 Turbo — Honda is prototyping an electrically supercharged, V-3 engine — a powerplant designed to put down big power numbers in a compact package.

As it pushes toward more electric cars and trucks, Honda is signaling a future electric motorcycle set to provide "a new emotional experience."

The electronic supercharger concept is a first for the motorcycle industry but not so in the automotive sector, with Audi the first to use a similar design in their SQ7 TDI SUV back in 2017 when they bolted an electric blower to their four liter diesel V8.

Well, now you have. Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Honda— which seems to be having a blast at the Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) this year—has just unveiled its new V3 engine equipped with the world’s first electrical compressor for motorcycles (according to Honda’s research).

Honda has revealed the first V-3 engine ever with force induction, and an electric one at that. Not only is it a looker, but the water-cooled engine arranges three pistons in a 75-degree vee.

Honda has announced the development of a 75-degree V3 engine for larger-displacement motorcycles, which promises to be both compact and high-performing. Honda says this new water-cooled engine is designed to be compact and designed to deliver high torque even at lower revs thanks to the electric compressor.

It's not that I think Honda is boring, but this certainly isn't the brand's traditional safe play.
