Earlier this month, NATO states Romania and Latvia saw Russian drones crash after breaching their airspace, prompting official calls for measures to act jointly to counter Russia air incursions.

Romania has asked Ukraine to shoot down Russian drones flying into its territory, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. On Wednesday, September 18, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha paid a working visit to Romania.

Romanian Defence Minister Angel Tîlvăr says the countries of the Bucharest Nine (B9) "are deeply concerned" by numerous instances of Russian drones and missiles entering the Alliance's airspace and a "decisive" response from NATO is required.

Speaking at a meeting of the Bucharest Nine (B9) format, Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar called for "enforcing the rotational air defense and integrated anti-missile model as soon as possible."

Latvia’s president said NATO needs to have the ability to shoot down Russian drones that stray into member states’ territory as he called for increased air defenses on the alliance’s eastern flank.

NATO must take "robust coordinated" measures in response to incidents where Russian missiles or drones launched by Ukraine invade the alliance's airspace, according to Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr.
