While Virginia isn’t a core battleground state this year, it does have more than two weeks of mail-in and early in-person voting already in the books, including hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots already cast.

Americans are voting every day, either early at a polling place or by mail. When CNN reports the number of early ballots returned or requested, the data is coming from a company called Catalist.

It’s a notable shift as Republicans work to close Democrats’ long-held advantage with early and absentee voting in Iowa and across the country.

With just three weeks left until Election Day, local Republicans and Democrats are encouraging Iowans to vote early. Starting Wednesday, Iowans can vote early in person at their local county auditor's office.
