The affected area has just under 400 homes, and so far officials believe about 200 need to be restored, Duggan said. Officials from the city and the Great Lakes Water Authority have promised to pay for damages and restoration for what Duggan called the "failure" of the water system.

The pop-up is steps away from impacted homes. Families can put whatever supplies they need into a cart and roll it where it needs to go.

Crews are continuing work on the water main in Southwest Detroit. The timeline for completing the repair and clearing the main for service is expected to run through the end of next week.
