The October inflation numbers were just released as part of the consumer price index — they are first inflation numbers since the election.

Consumer prices rose 2.6% in October compared to a year ago, ticking upward from the previous month and reversing some of the cooldown achieved in recent months, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data on Wednesday showed.

Producer price data on Thursday might look like a setback in the last mile of the Federal Reserve’s inflation fight, but it isn’t likely to sway policymakers from a December interest-rate cut. Wholesale inflation is forecast to pick up in October after holding steady in September.
