Apple unveiled its new MacBook Pro models this week, with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chipsets. The M4 Max still looks like a good upgrade compared with the M2 Max, with up to four additional high-performance CPU cores, a higher maximum RAM capacity, and two additional GPU cores. But again, it looks like the increased memory bandwidth could drive most of the GPU performance increases.

As well as the M4 and M4 processors already announced, the MacBook Pro can be configured with the M4 Max chip which Apple has just unveiled. Like the M4 Pro, Apple describes M4 Max as second-generation 3-nanometer technology with fast performance.

Between the two new productivity-level chipsets headed to Apple's new laptops this fall, The M4 Pro and M4 Max offer two distinct levels of capability.

Apple wrapped up a half week of Mac announcements Wednesday by debuting the latest addition to the M-series of chips. A day after announcing the M4 Pro
