The LPGA and U.S. Golf Association have announced changes to their transgender policies, effective for the 2025 season. The policies, which were announced in tandem on Wednesday, prohibit athletes who have experienced male puberty from competing in women’s events.

New LPGA and USGA policies prohibit golfers who were assigned as male at birth and did not transition to female before starting puberty from competing in elite events.

Two golf governing bodies – the LPGA and the USGA – announced new guidelines Wednesday requiring golfers to be female at birth or to have transitioned pre-puberty to be eligible to compete in women’s events.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) updated its gender policy on Wednesday, and players assigned male at birth and who have gone through male puberty will not be eligible to compete.

The LPGA and USGA both released statements Wednesday updating their gender policies for competition eligibility set to take effect in 2025. Under the new guidelines, eligible athletes for LPGA and USGA women's competitions must be assigned female at birth or have transitioned to female prior to going through male puberty.

Only athletes assigned female at birth or assigned male at birth who did not undergo male puberty can compete in events next year.
