An Israeli security official said the transfer of aid into the territory is halted "until further notice," the first major test of the ceasefire.

Israel has said it will resume enforcement of the ceasefire after launching air strikes on Gaza in response to what it called Hamas's "blatant violation".

Israel said Sunday it responded after "terrorists" attacked troops operating in the Rafah area with gunfire and an anti-tank missile. Hamas said it was unaware of the clashes.

Israel on Sunday struck targets in southern Gaza after saying its troops came under fire from Hamas militants, in the first major test of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire meant to halt more than two years of war. Health officials said at least nine Palestinians were killed.

Israel launched a wave of attacks on Gaza after accusing Palestinian militants of attacking its forces across cease-fire lines. Both sides say they are still committed to the truce.

Shortly before sunset, Israel’s military said it had begun a series of airstrikes in southern Gaza against what it called Hamas targets. It also said its forces struck “terrorists” approaching troops in Beit Lahiya in the north.

Israel said Hamas handed over “two coffins of deceased hostages ” from Gaza late Saturday, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu increased pressure on the militant group to share the rest more quickly under their ceasefire.

The Rafah crossing has largely been shut since May 2024. The ceasefire deal also includes the ramping up of aid to Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people were determined in August to be affected by famine, according to the IPC global hunger monitor.

A little over a week has passed since the start of the US-proposed cease-fire aimed at ending two years of war. President Trump said the cease-fire remained in place and “we want to make sure it’s going to be very peaceful.

Israel said it has received the bodies of two more hostages, leaving 16 in the enclave. Gaza officials said they received the bodies of 15 more Palestinians released by Israel, some of which they say showed signs of beatings and abuse.
