Hawkeyes spoil the first game for interim coach Terry Smith and the first start for quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer

IOWA CITY – It was a bit of a bumpy ride for Ethan Grunkemeyer in his first collegiate start against Iowa on Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium. But in Penn State’s 25-24 loss to the Hawkeyes, Penn State’s redshirt freshman quarterback displayed some of the skills that excited the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff soon after he arrived in 2024.

Mark Gronowski was effusive in his praise of his offensive line and the Iowa fanbase after the Hawkeyes took down Penn State.

Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski rushed for a career-high 130 yards and two touchdowns, and Kaden Wetjen scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 8-yard run with 3:54 to play, as the Hawkeyes defeated Penn State 25-24 on Saturday night.
