Vice President JD Vance on Friday accused Denmark of underinvesting in the security architecture of Greenland as he claimed other European allies had failed to keep pace with defense spending.

Vice President J.D. Vance made a pitch Friday for Greenland to consider U.S. leadership, saying Denmark is "failing" at securing the Arctic island.

"The U.S. shall not take over Greenland. Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said.

JD Vance criticized Denmark for neglecting Greenland's people and security during a visit to Pituffik Space Base, and Greenlandic officials had mixed reactions.

The VP said the territory would “be a lot better” under the U.S. security umbrella and scolded Denmark for not doing “a good job” by Greenlanders.

We are open to criticism, but let me be completely honest — we do not appreciate the tone in which its is being delivered,” Rasmussen said in a video message.
