As the Fourth of July holiday approaches and families are planning beach time, some people on Long Island have lingering fears of the ocean.

A 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when she was apparently bitten by a sand tiger shark while standing in waist-deep water, according to officials.

Experts have narrowed down the shark species likely responsible for biting a woman at New York’s Jones Beach State Park last week, leading to a temporary beach closure.
