When the Atlanta Braves traded Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels for Griffin Canning, Soler was surprised. The trade marked the first one in the offseason, and came from an Angels team that recently has not been known for making major acquisitions.

Soler, the 2021 World Series MVP for the Braves, was in his second tour of duty with Atlanta. The team acquired him from San Francisco in a mid-season desperation move, just beating the trade deadline, after a plethora of injuries plunged the offense into a deep funk.

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired veteran outfielder and DH Jorge Soler in a trade with the Atlanta Braves, who in return are receiving right-hander Griffin Canning. The Braves announced the deal on Thursday, roughly 14 hours after the Dodgers defeated the Yankees to win the 2024 World Series.
