Microsoft has postponed the release of its Recall feature for Windows, pushing it to a December preview for Copilot+ PC users. The feature, designed to let users retrace their digital steps, was initially planned for October but requires further refinement to address security and privacy concerns.

The controversial “explorable timeline” feature for new Windows PCs was initially due for a preview launch in June.

Whether Microsoft will hit even the modest December testing deadline remains to be seen. As for the question of when Recall might be implemented as an official feature for Windows 11 Copilot PCs is anyone's guess. It's good that Microsoft now seems to be taking a cautious approach.

Microsoft waited until the very last day of the month to let us know that the Recall feature wouldn't be coming to Windows Insiders on time.

Microsoft originally intended to delay its controversial Recall feature until October. But on Halloween, Microsoft has confirmed that Recall will be postponed again to avoid becoming the privacy nightmare before Christmas.

Processors can handle Recall if they have neural processing units (NPUs) and can hit 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second). Meteor Lake CPUs have NPUs but don’t qualify for Recall. Since June, many new PCs that support Recall feature Microsoft’s Copilot+ branding. Many of the first CoPilot+ PCs sported Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips.
