The expressway network of China, with the national-level expressway system officially known as the National Trunk Highway System (Chinese: 中国国家干线公路系统; pinyin: Zhōngguó Guójiā Gànxiàn Gōnglù Xìtǒng; abbreviated as NTHS), is an integrated system of national and provincial-level expressways in China.

The China National Highways (CNH / Guodao) (simplified Chinese: 中华人民共和国国道; traditional Chinese: 中華人民共和國國道; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó Guódào) is a network of trunk roads across mainland China.

There are 1.18 million km of highways in China, including 68 national highways and more than 1600 provincial highways.

Mar 13, 2024 · China National Highways and China Motorways make up China's road network. Urban highways quadrupled in area and doubled in length between 1990 and 2003. Tibet is not covered by motorways; most of mainland China is covered by China National Highways.

Construction of expressways and first-and second-class highways are progressing rapidly. Several dozen expressways pivoting on such major cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Taiyuan and Xi'an have been completed and opened to traffic.

The 1,341-metre structure cost over 1 billion yuan to build – that’s almost 115 million pounds. It and other ambitious expressway projects are funded in various different ways, including vehicle purchase tax and money collected from tolls (China contains around 70% of the world’s tollways.)
