BTW, IMO, a decent live-liner (baitrunner) reel such as a Penn Spinfisher V 6500LL or KK Sharkey III 6000B/R will add to any rod's sensitivity for live bait fishing.

At night I lock the drag down on 10' surf rods and let the catfish pull them down off a bridge I fish on. The bridge has drain holes in it every 10' so that we can put up 12 of them in a line. We light 2 propane lanterns on each end and sit facing each other.

Aug 28, 2020 · I have absolutely no problem using my medium heavy rods on the Ohio River or even White River where I expect to catch 20# and above fish. when I am channel cat fishing I use my medium power rods. The only thing I would change would be to make manufacturers comply with standards so the rod rating actually meant something.

Aug 17, 2006 · I fish primarily on the River, and with all the trees, weeds, and brush along the bank, it is just to hard to cast the longer, heavier rods without banging them against a tree, or hangin up in a tree or bush. I use 6.5' Rhino rods, with Zebco 808 reels and 20# test. These rods are pretty much unbreakable, with plenty of backbone.

Sep 14, 2022 · I have the ML paired with Komodo 364 reels. They cast 3oz. Plus a goldfish 5-6” goldfish with ease. I have landed Shovelheads up to 43lbs. Without issue. The M rods I have Penn Fathom 15LWs on.. they are very similar to an Okuma BattleCat in rating and action and just a little faster in the tip then a MudBum railsplitter.

Apr 7, 2009 · 6 rods here. Somewhat limited by the tidal current to fishing out the back of the boat and a couple to the side, unless you're lobbing massive weights with the side poles to get them to stick. I've seen lake guys with rods all the way around their boat.
