On Sunday, August 29, President Thomas S. Monson dedicated the Kyiv Ukraine Temple—the first LDS temple built in the former Soviet Union. The temple serves Armenia, Belorussia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldavia, Romania, Russia and Ukraine.

Architecture and Design of the Kyiv Ukraine Temple. The Kyiv temple is a 22,000-square-foot structure with a multilevel tower crowned with a gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni. The exterior is made from Amarelo Macieira granite with quartzite crystals, which reflect sunlight, and the grounds are covered with grass, trees and flower gardens.

Upon dedication, the Kyiv Ukraine Temple will be the 134 th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide, the Church’s first in Eastern Europe and the 11 th overall on the European continent.
