In 1967, the U.S. military launched Operation Popeye a classified weather-control mission to extend Vietnam’s monsoon season. C-130 aircraft released silver iodide particles into storm clouds to trigger heavy rainfall, washing out the Ho Chi Minh Trail and delaying enemy reinforcements.
